Matthew is passionate about story-telling through the medium of film. The multi-faceted process of filmmaking itself also captivates him. Over his extensive filmmaking career, he knows it takes many people with diverse talents to make quality films. As a long-time 1st AD, Matthew has had the benefit of working under a vast array of directors with varying styles. His experiences have informed his own unique filming style.

Matthew strives to inspire his colleagues and to create positive working environments that bring out the best in people. This has enabled him to pull together his own filmmaking teams to produce and co-produce his own independent short films. In 2019, he directed "The Still Life of Annika Myers", starring Barbara Wallace and Brian Taylor, which has screened and received acclaim in various festivals in Canada, the US and Asia.
